Get to know The Geargirl

Where to begin? The Gearhead and I went to high school together. We ran in different circles but in a small rural town in SD, those circles tend to overlap sometimes so we hung out quite a bit. I even dated one of his best friends for about half of my high school career.

I can vividly remember a beautiful spring day spent out at the farm. It was 1990 and I was a sophomore; he was a freshman. We were hauled up on the hood of an old car, just sitting there in the tall grasses and shooting the breeze. We made a pact to marry each other that day if we weren’t already hitched up in 20 years. Took us a while, but 19 years later, we were side by side at the altar…made it just under the wire.

Besides being a fun story to tell, I think it’s important because it sets the stage for our relationship now. We were always friends. And we just get each other. We may take different paths in logic to get there, but we always end up in the same place. And as any married gearhead couple might tell you, that foundation is essential when you tackle big car restoration projects. At least it is for us.

Beyond that, I’m a MWF and into classic rock-n-roll, single malt scotch and wide open spaces. I love kids and have three nephews all under the age of three, two of the loveliest nieces, and two godchildren. I don’t discriminate between cats and dogs. My favorite color is pink and if you bring me Unconditional Chocolate Dove ice cream I will love you forever. My favorite song is “Sweet Home Alabama” (turn it up) and I love to sing. I’m at home in the mountains, in the desert, by the water…I just can’t get enough of being outside in this beautiful world. I love to feel the wind in my hair. I love to travel and hope to see the pyramids someday. I kinda dig ancient history and would like be an archeologist when I grow up. I love Halloween. I’m crafty but my passion lies in photography and the idea that a memory can live forever in a picture. I’ve become more a “what you see is what you get” kinda person in my old age. I recently discovered a fear of heights and life-sized plastic dolls. A day spent with family and friends is better than most anything. I like to surround myself with positive people who work hard and don’t judge. I believe that everyone has something to offer. I love roadtrips! Being next to my husband with miles of blacktop before us is one of the best places to be.
